Idiom-Monday #15 The odd one out.

Writer's picture: Lucy @ DailyEnglishLucy @ DailyEnglish

Here's an idiom for you to try out this week in your daily speaking practice!

This phrase isn't connected to odds / evens (2,4,6,8 vs 1,3,5,7 for example) - it means a person or thing that is different from or kept apart from others that form a group or set.

When related to a person be careful as it's pointing out something negatively different about them/ showing a lack of something.

Let’s have a look at some examples:

She was always the odd one out at secondary school - she didn't have many friends.
The house painted pink is the odd one out on our street, all the others are white.
