Here's an idiom for you to try out this week in your daily speaking practice!

This phrase is said in the positive but most often in the negative when describing something.


If something 'breaks the bank' it means it's far too expensive and that a person cannot afford it, they might say something like 'I'm not made of money!' - but it is often used with a negative 'won't' or 'is not going to'.

Let’s have a look at some examples:

It only costs $2 - that's not exactly going to break the bank.
At £30, the shirts won't break the bank.
