Idiom-Monday #30 to swallow your pride

Here's an idiom for you to try out this week in your daily speaking practice!

This phrase is a really nice one to use and isn't too tricky !

When you have to do something you find that you are embarrassed about - we say you 'swallow your pride' and get on with it.


It's always used with a possessive:

  • my pride

  • your pride

  • his/her pride

  • our pride

  • their pride

Let’s have a look at some examples:

He was forced to swallow his pride and ask if he could have his old job back.
I'll have to swallow my pride and admit this was a terrible idea.
