Here's an idiom for you to try out this week in your daily speaking practice!

This idiom is really handy in the workplace and can be used when starting a new task or job while being trained by another person / training someone new.


To show someone the ropes, or for someone to show you the ropes they will explain the basic processes & steps of a new task.

Let’s have a look at some examples:

This is John, he'll be showing you the ropes this week as part of your induction.
We've got a new team member starting tomorrow, I need someone to show them the ropes.
