Idiom-Monday #18 ...to take something too far...

Writer's picture: Lucy @ DailyEnglishLucy @ DailyEnglish

Here's an idiom for you to try out this week in your daily speaking practice!

To take something or to go too far means to take a situation to an extreme level that then has a negative effect - this can be connected to a joke or maybe if someone wants revenge and they 'get carried away' meaning their emotions control their actions in a way that is inappropriate / unacceptable.

Let’s have a look at some examples:

He took the joke too far and she started to cry.
We wanted to teach him a lesson, but we took it too far and he got really hurt.
Stop now! You've taken it too far.
